New rice varieties with an extended life cycle

A Bangladeshi scientist has cultivated and developed a new type of rice that has an extended life cycle, one plant can give three crops. The yield of this new rice plant could be four times higher than traditional varieties, that would help boost food security in South Asia and beyond. Abed Chaudhury, a genetics expert who has worked with the Australian National Rice Research Institute for the past 20 years described its as a second life or extended life for the plants.
